JCDecaux gives up buying Cemusa – Business Journal – Portugal

The JCDecaux gave up the purchase of Cemusa. The concentration in the outdoor advertising market was being examined by the Competition Authority since August 2014.

The Competition Authority (CA) considered extinct referring the case to the merger between JCDecaux and Cemusa, in the field of outdoor advertising. The decision, announced this Friday, March 20, follows the JCDecaux has submitted a waiver of application of the operation.

“The PCA had adopted the August 7, 2014 a decision to move to depth investigation on the grounds that the transaction in question raised serious doubts of possible significantly impede effective competition, requiring additional steps, “recalls the regulator said in a statement.

The concerns raised were related to the increased degree of concentration, competitive proximity of the companies participating in the operation and the barriers to entry and expansion, which could be aggravated by the transaction.

In view of the concerns identified by the Competition Authority in depth investigation phase, “JCDecaux submitted commitments, February 10, 2015 and a new proposal on 10 March, with no one pronunciation of acceptance thereof by the Competition Authority”, reads the same document.

On 18 JCDecaux submitted a waiver of application of the procedure, “following which the CA declared extinct.”

The operation had been notified to the Competition Authority on 2 May 2014.
