TAP, Sata, Portugalia, White Airways EuroAtlantic Airways and Hi Fly will be required to implement “immediately” the rule of “two people” in the cockpit, announced Sergio Monteiro, Secretary of State for Transport.
The Government announced this Friday, March 27th, the domiciled airlines in Portugal – TAP, Sata, Portugalia, White Airways EuroAtlantic Airways and Hi Fly – will be required to implement “immediately” the rule of “two people” in the “cockpit”.
“INAC, in the discussions with European counterparts, has just informed that issue today at the end of the day an airworthiness directive which mandates the existence of two crew members simultaneously on cockpit, “said Sergio Monteiro, Secretary of State for Transport. Companies will therefore have to “ adjust the navigation manuals to become mandatory” the simultaneous presence of two crew members in the cockpit at all times.
The directive, which will be published today, applies to all airlines headquartered in Portugal and has “immediate” effects.
In addition to this rule, National Civil Aviation Institute (INAC) may recommend other security measures in a wider opinion to be known next week. This opinion was requested by the Portuguese Government following the accident to the aircraft Germanwings, to strengthen security in flight.
This is because the conclusions of the French prosecutor research point to the sole responsibility of the co- pilot who will “voluntarily” released the plane cons the montahas the Alps when he was alone in the “cockpit”.
Andreas Lubitz prevented the return of the master to the cockpit, ignored the attempts to contact the traffic control air and precipitated an accident that killed all 150 occupants of the aircraft.
