The Portuguese bank, in which the Angolan businesswoman Isabel dos Santos has a stake of more than 18%, was interested in acquiring the assets of the former Banco Espírito Santo, but was not selected by the Bank of Portugal.
Lisbon – The Bank Investment Portuguese (BPI) confirmed in a statement to the Securities Market Commission (CMVM) have been excluded from the purchase of the New Bank process, the resulting financial institution taking control of Banco Espírito Santo (BES) by Resolution Fund Bank of Portugal.
In a statement to the CMVM BPI indicates that “the dePortugal Bank notified the BPI bank that its proposal was not selected for the third phase of the New alienation procedure Bank”.
Having among its largest shareholders the Spanish bank Caixabank and the Angolan businesswoman Isabel dos Santos, BPI was one of the entities that have expressed the Bank of Portugal interest in buying the New Bank.
In statement released Friday, the Portuguese central bank had indicated choosing only five institutions to move to the third stage of the purchase of the New Bank process in which stakeholders will have to submit binding offers.
Now Bank of Portugal invite the selected entities to submit by the end of June 2015, proposed binding on acquisition of the New Bank. In this new stage, candidates will have access to more detailed information about the New Bank.
