The unemployment rate rose in October in a 10.8%, according to the provisional estimate released by the National Statistics Institute (INE), which has revised upwards the values of September to 10.9%, compared to the initial estimate of 10.8%.

The estimated final rate of unemployment in September, according to the INE, was 10.9%, unchanged from the previous month and decreased by 0.1 percentage points over the three months before.
The estimate definitive of the unemployed population of September stood at 558,2 thousand persons, having decreased by 0.3% compared to the previous month (less than 1.6 thousand people).
The estimate definitive of the employed population of September amounted to 4,568 million people, which represents a decrease of 0.1% compared to the previous month (5.1 thousand persons).
According to the INE, the unemployment rate of women (by 10.9%) was higher than that of men (10.7%), and having both fallen by 0.1 percentage points compared to September.
The youth unemployment rate stood at 28.9% (plus 0.3 percentage points compared to September, while that of adults was 9.4% (decreasing by 0.1 percentage points compared to the previous month).
The monthly increase observed in the rate of unemployment in October has resulted, according to the institute, the increase of the unemployed population (1.3 percent or the equivalent of 6.9 billion people) and the decrease of the employed population (0,4% or the equivalent to 18.9 thousand persons).
In October of 2015, the unemployment rate had been 12.4%.
For the reduction year-on-year, contributed to the decrease of the unemployed population (by 12.2% or the equivalent to 77.1 thousand people) and the increase of the employed population (2% or the equivalent of 90,7 thousand people), refers to the INE.
