Production of cars in Portugal increased 4.9% – TVI24

The Portuguese factories of car production soared to 161,509 vehicles manufactured in 2014, representing an increase of 4.9% over the previous year. The information was released by the Automobile Association of Portugal (ACA).

The passenger are the most responsible for the rise, accounting for 117,744 vehicles produced and 7.3% more than in 2013. The production of heavy fell to 2897 trucks of goods (14.8%) and commercial light decreased to 40,868 units (0.1%).

Of the total vehicles produced, 96.3% went for export (155,476 units). The situation led to growth of 3.6% in relation to production in the previous year.

The European Union is the main recetora cars designed in Portugal, receiving 74.3%. Germany is the country that purchase (21.2%). China is second with 16.4% units manufactured in Portugal.

However, in December there was a decrease of 29% in production, compared to the year 2013. In the passenger, there was a decrease of 28.1%, while light commercial this decline was 35.1%.
