The Government announced today that it will open negotiations with the listed companies so that they undertake to include at least 30% of women in the respective boards of directors by the end of 2018.
This decision was announced at the end of the Council of Ministers by the Secretary of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Equality, Teresa Morais, who admitted the future adoption of” more imperative nature of measures “if companies do not adhere” voluntarily this goal.
“Companies have in their own hands the solution to this problem and, therefore, are in time to solve without a quota law. If they do not voluntarily leave open this path to the possibility of creating more compelling ways to achieve the same goal, “said Teresa Morais, at the press conference on the conclusions of the Council of Ministers.
