Unemployment rate stood at 10.9% in September – the Public.en

The unemployment rate remained in September in 10,9% of the working population, leaving in the same value of the previous two months, according to final data released on Wednesday by the National Statistics Institute (INE).

The provisional estimate, published a month ago pointed to a slightly lower unemployment compared to August, putting the rate in decline of 10.8%, but the final data point to an upward revision (0.1 percentage points). Conclusion, the rate of desemrpego is in at 10.9% for three consecutive months.

In September, there was 558,2 thousand people unemployed. In absolute terms, the unemployed population decreased by 0.3% compared to August, which represents less than 1600 people out of the job market.

The youth had a monthly increase significant and not followed the trend of stabilization checked in the rate of total unemployment. Thus, 28.6 per cent of young people between 15 and 24 years were unemployed, well above the of 26.7% recorded in August. Looking for the absolute numbers, this rate represents 103.800 people without work, more 7500 than in the previous month. For October, the provisional data point to an increase in very light of youth unemployment, with the rate to be at 28.9%.

The employed population registered a decrease compared to the previous month. In September, there was 4567,9 thousand people working, less 5100 than in August.

For October, the provisional estimate of the INE points to a lowering of the monthly unemployment to 10.8%. "This month, the provisional estimate of unemployed population was 553,7 thousand persons and the employed population was 4569,6 thousand people," writes the INE.

Already in the comparison with October last year, the unemployment rate provisional retreated from 12.4% to 10.8%, with less 81 thousand unemployed people.The employment seems to be recovering, with 80 thousand people integrated in the labour market compared to the same period last year.

The unemployment statistics that the INE disseminates all the months are adjusted for seasonality and relate to the population aged 15 to 74 years, and may not be directly comparable with the quarterly data from the labour market released by the same institute statistical (where we consider the population with 15 and more years, in line with the concepts of the International Labour Organization, being the most recent rate of 10.5% for the quarter from July to September).

the monthly data, the values refer to the quarters furniture: there is a reference month, which corresponds to the month the central feature of that period (in the case of values definitive of this day, this month is September), being also considered the values of the previous month and the following month.
