First new airplane of the TAP is a A330neo and arrives in 2017 – Express

Of all the new airplanes that the Gateway consortium hired to TAP, the first to arrive will be an Airbus A330neo and will be operational in the fourth quarter 2017, knows Express. The TAP fleet will be enhanced with more A330neo, but the main group of aircraft ordered by Gateway consortium will comprise the new A321neo, the Long Range version. Is this the type of aircraft that can ensure most of its routes, on flights between Lisbon and New York or Boston and also for the Brazilian Northeast. Until the entry of the first of the new aircraft – a whole will be 53 – the new owners of TAP aim to accelerate investment in the renovation of the interior of the current fleet aircraft, for what will channel € 50 million immediately.

Faced with this plan, the majority shareholder of the consortium, Humberto Pedrosa, does not comment, citing the confidentiality agreement entered into with his partner David Neeleman. But clarifies that next week, on 24 June, when signing the preliminary contract with the state, paying a sign of € 2 million, “the main details of the investment plan will be disclosed. We will explain how we intend to revive the credibility and the image of TAP and increase their routes, “he says.

Humberto Pedrosa in 6th privatization

The owner of Barraqueiro denies accusations that its participation only aims to circumvent the legal obligation to TAP be purchased by a majority of capital European – Pedrosa has 50.1% of the consortium and the American partner David Neeleman the remaining 49.9% – away from the scenario later end up selling this position.

“It will be the sixth privatization in my life and – like the other – will be a company to develop and grow,” he says.

“Never seeing companies – all road I bought in privatization, especially the Algarve, Alentejo, Extremadura, the Tagus and Lisbon, still in my group, as I did with all my remaining companies, “he says.

With 67 years, the entrepreneur has the support of the sons David and Arthur – “both work with me in the group,” he says. “But for TAP, will be a highly specialized management team, recognized in the industry that provides assurances that the growth objectives will be achieved.”

“TAP lived decades with a strong image quality and deserves a solid recovery. But for me, also makes sense for another reason: I am internationalize my group, “he explains. Humberto Pedrosa recently entered Brazil in the transport sector in Fortaleza and Manaus. Still want to streamline the transportation fuels in Angola. And it has projects under development in Mozambique. “We also want to stimulate the Iberian growth, but it remains hard to get in Spain because it is a very protected market”, he says.

He says he already has everything ready to join the firm and that the association with David Neeleman “is going to happen.” In the initial phase, TAP already has the support of the planes available in Blue, which will complement its operation in high summer time and winter aircraft available TAP will complement Blue activity in the Brazilian high season of January and February.

Pinto ensures transition

The renovation of the inside of aircraft cabins is one of the urgent decisions for the Gateway consortium. But the transition will be assured by Fernando Pinto, who confirmed to Express their commitment to ensure the handing over to the new private shareholder. “Everything will be implemented smoothly,” he says.

Fernando Pinto considers that “the combination of David Neeleman and Humberto Pedrosa assures TAP a solid shareholder base, comprised of entrepreneurs who know the transport sector”. “I think it important to participate in the transition phase and I will do everything to relaunch the company in terms of objectives and the new shareholder capabilities,” said the manager.

Humberto Pedrosa had also told the Express that wish Fernando Pinto remained in TAP. The Brazilian manager believes that “the manifestation of that intention on the part of Humberto Pedrosa gives comfort” and therefore “have to think about what will be the TAP project for the later stage of transition,” but states that “it is still premature to say much more than that. ”

As for the technical proposal Gateway, one of the goals of the new shareholders is to operate more efficient aircraft, which monetize operations, spending less fuel. More than half of the 53 aircraft that will enter the TAP will be the new model A321neo Long Range, which will serve to operate 90% of the routes of TAP. The bulk of deliveries of these aircraft will take place during 2018. The consumer savings will be significant, given that, in a transatlantic journey (eg Lisbon-New York), while an A350 consumes $ 38,100 of fuel, the A321neo spends 16 , $ 6,000.
