A strike by workers Groundforce, convened by the Union of Workers of the Aviation and Airports (Sitava) can cause disruptions in services at Lisbon airport especially in the ‘check-in’ and luggage services.
Set in a week of fighting in the transport sector, Sitava called a partial strike in the company of ‘handling’ (ground handling), between 09:00 and 15:00 Friday, to challenge privatization in the sector.
Speaking to Lusa, the coordinator of Sitava Fernando Henriques said that “surely there will be difficulties’ in care services ashore from Portela airport, adding that the use of temporary workers and service providers should minimize the impact of downtime.
An official source TAP devalues the impact of the strike, considering that the ground handling service will not be affected by the protest action.
From 10:00, the Groundforce workers are concentrated in a protest action in front of the Court of Auditors, in Lisbon, complaining that the institution led by Guilherme d’Oliveira Martins make a close scrutiny following successive privatizations and award in the sector undertaken by this Government.
After the merger, the employees of ground handling company to follow the Ministry of Economy, which has the protection of transport.
The ground handling company is owned 49.9% by TAP and 50.1% by Urban, following an agreement announced in 2012 and closed in 2013.
