The Brazilian trade balance accumulated a surplus (exports greater than imports) of 28,230 million dollars (25.27 billion euros) from January to July, the highest since 1989, according to data released this second -feira.

Before, the Brazilian surplus record for the first seven months of the year was 2006, amounting to 25,190 million dollars (22.55 billion euros).

According to figures from the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, in July, the balance was also positive in 4578 million (EUR 4 billion), a result that exceeds by 91.9 % positive balance of the same month 2015.

the positive balance of July resulted in 16,331 million dollars (14.62 billion euros) in exports and 11,752 million dollars (10.5 billion) in imports.

protection of data show that exports are still declining, compared to 2015 and that imports shrink at a faster pace.

despite the surplus growth, Brazil’s sales abroad skidded 3.5% compared to July last year, while Brazilian overseas purchases fell by 20.3%.

a forecast released on 19 July by the Foreign Trade Association of Brazil (AEB) estimated a surplus record of 46.9 billion dollars (42.57 billion euros) in 2016, more than double the figure recorded in 2015.

the association described the surplus as “negative” for result not of an increase in exports, but a fall in imports, resulting from the recession in Brazil.
