The Competition Authority (AdC) may impose a fine of up to 10% of the turnover of the companies EDP and Sonae accused of the practice of non-competition.
The regulator sent illegal activity notes to five companies in the EDP and Sonae groups the practice of non-competition, announced the CA this Thursday, August 4.
Two of these companies are the Commercial EDP and the mainland that incur a fine which may not exceed 10% of the volume business done in the year preceding the final decision, according to the Competition Act. But to date there is no memory of a fine from the Competition Authority which has reached 10%.
Companies now have the opportunity to present their defenses, consisting of written pronunciations and individual oral hearings to each companies. According to the law, the process must be completed within 12 months from the statement of objections of the notification which was sent on 29 July.
