The number of unemployed registered at employment stood at 624,230 in August, down 10.2% year on year and an increase of 2% compared to July, according to data from IEFP.
According to the monthly information on the labor market of the Institute of Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP), the total number of registered unemployed in Portugal fell by 10.2% in August compared to the same month of the year past, which is less 70 835 individuals.
Compared to the previous month, there was an increase of 2%, ie over 12,534 people.
According IEFP, the number of registered unemployed in August is 72.8% of a total of 857 442 applications for employment centers in the continent and autonomous regions.
In the analysis by gender, the statistics point to an annual fall in unemployment in both men (-11.5%) and women (9%), while comparing the previous month, there is an increase of 2% and 2.8%, respectively.
In terms of age group, “both segments analysis (youth and adults) had an annual fall respectively -12.9% and -9.8%,” the IEFP.
As regards the time registration, “registered unemployed for less than one year decreased 17.2% compared to August 2013, while the long-term unemployed (registration time less than one year) decreased 2.0% . “
The number of unemployed seeking new employment decreased 11.8% year on year, while looking for work rose 6.6%.
At the regional level, unemployment decreased in all regions of the continent and in the islands YoY.
“In the Algarve, there was a sharper decline (-19.5%),” the IEFP.
