The end of the painful austerity programme imposed in the Uk came to an end in may 2014. Up until then, and during four years, the Portuguese have seen wages frozen, subsidies eliminated, family allowances were withdrawn and smaller pensions, increased poverty levels among the population. According to the results of the survey of income and living conditions published this Thursday by the National Statistics Institute, the poverty risk was reduced by 0.5 percentage points after the departure of the troika, standing still in the high 19%.
To the INE, it is the poor who earns a monetary income the annual net per adult of less than €5.268 monthly. This threshold, the so-called "poverty line relative to", "corresponds to 60% of the median (€8.780) of the income distribution, net monetary equivalents". The data from this new survey have been collected in 2015.
