Consumer credit grew 21.5% in June over the same month last year, accounting for 409.4 million euros, with a strong contribution from loans for car purchase, show the data of the Bank of Portugal (BoP) disclosed on Monday.

                     

                         Compared to May, the granted value also increased, but only 3%, from 397.3 million euros to 409.4 million euros.

Delinquency and repeating the trend of recent months, car loans again recorded the largest increases over the same period. Leasing or ALD to new car ownership grew 30.0%, and to finance the purchase of used even grew a bit more, reaching 36.2%.

Within the automotive sector, and compared to June 2014, loans with car ownership reserve rose 48.7% in new cars, accounting for around EUR 33.5 million, and 45.4% in used.

In the variation monthly, the amount paid for the purchase of new cars increased by 5.6% and 9.6% used.

In personal credit, contracts for education, health, renewable energy and leasing of equipment, They rose by 20.1% in June from the same month of 2014, to 1.7 million euros. And an increase of 32.7% compared to May. Also the personal credit contracts without specific purpose (home, consolidated or otherwise) rose 14.8% year on year to a total of 174.2 million euros, but decreased by 1% compared to May.

As for new contracts for credit cards, lines of credit, bank accounts and overdraft facilities, an increase of 6.3% in June this year from the same month to 82.9 million euros. Compared to May, growth was higher, reaching 7.1%.

In number of contracts with grant, ie, contracts in which a portion of the cost of credit is supported by a third party (such as the point of sale), there has been a growth of 46.2% in leasing or ALD of new cars and 20.3% in used.
