Environment Minister reaffirms that privatization of EGF will … – Business Journal – Portugal

Moreira da Silva is confident that the sale of the management of waste will be decided by the Cabinet this month, despite accusations that are being exchanged between the main competitors, the FCC and Mota-Engil.

The Environment Minister, Jorge Moreira da Silva, reiterated this Monday, September 15, that the process of privatization of EGF – General Enterprise Development will be completed later this month, despite the extension of the period prior hearing to competitors, in which investors interested in managing waste had the opportunity to comment on the preliminary report of Parpública.

“The privatization will be decided, hopefully, by the end of month, “said Jorge Moreira da Silva after submitting the Commitment to Green Growth in Lisbon. The Environment Minister has not explained, however, if the buyer’s choice is already made in the Council of Ministers this week or next.

The official did not rule on the arguments that the two main competitors Mota-Engil (through SUMA) and the FCC, have relied in recent days to enhance their proposals. Remember that in assessing Parpública Mota-Engil was ranked first, having submitted a bid for the EGF amount of € 149.9 million, against 145.3 million FCC.

This Monday’s “Economic Daily” reveals that the FCC asked the Parpública disqualification SUMA for allegedly not having a commitment to approve the acquisition by its shareholder and financing commitments are valid only for three months, rather than the 12 months required in the specifications.

Jorge Moreira da Silva did not comment, in particular, the mutual accusations that the two main competitors to EGF have done. “I see the argument naturally candidate.’s Normal that everyone wants to win,” said Minister of the Environment.

For the governor, the dispute over the EGF proves the interest of the asset and the ability of the Executive in preparation for sale. “The fact that by the end of this privatization is so competitive is significant: the government has done its homework,” concluded Moreira da Silva
