President Barroso at the summit grand coalition for creating Digital
Tomorrow, Friday, the European Commission President, José Manuel Barroso, spoke at the opening session of the Grand Coalition for Jobs Jobs digital in Portugal, an initiative launched by CIONET – Europe’s largest community of executives in ICT – and key partners in Portugal. This summit aims to generate synergies and guide joint efforts to revolutionize the employment and investment in information and communication technology sector in Portugal.
Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs is a Europe-wide initiative launched by the European Commission March 2013 The Commission leads a partnership with multiple stakeholders in order to address the lack of skills in Europe and 900,000 jobs unfilled in ICT. The European Commission supported this initiative from the beginning, given its impact in promoting job creation, particularly in youth employment. Throughout the European Union, various business leaders joined the grand coalition and supported the Declaration of Davos for the Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs.
• Commission publishes results of the study on the retail sale of food products
The European Commission published the results of a detailed study on the evolution of choice and innovation over the last decade, for food products in Europe. The results show that the entry of new competitors always increases choice and innovation. In many Member States, retail markets are not very concentrated and the bargaining power of retailers do not seem to have a negative impact on choice and innovation. Finally, although the choice of Europeans in stores has increased steadily since 2004, the number of innovations that arrive annually to consumers declined since 2008, largely due to the economic crisis. The Commission invites interested parties to submit their observations on the study results.
• New fund pan-European pension fund to encourage the mobility of researchers
The mobility of researchers in Europe received a boost today with the launch of a consortium that aims to establish a new regime of pan-European pension fund. Once implemented, the initiative will RESAVER move freely without having to worry about preserving their supplementary pension benefits to researchers. The consortium intends to establish according to the pension scheme in 2015 This system will allow researchers to remain enrolled in the same pension fund, even when they change jobs and move between different countries. The European Commission will cover the initial costs of setting up this fund through a framework contract for four years, which will be awarded before the end of 2014
• in industrial producer prices down 0.1% in both Euro area and EU 28
In August 2014 compared with July 2014, industrial producer prices fell in 0.1% in both the euro area and the EU, according to Eurostat estimates, the Statistical Office of the European Union. In July, prices fell 0.2% in both zones.
In August 2014 compared with August 2013, industrial producer prices in decreased 1.4% in the Eurozone and 1.5% in EU.
