The unemployed registered in employment centres fall 13.1% in December year-on-year – the Observer

The number of the unemployed registered in employment centers continued in December in the same trend, declining by 13.1% yoy, to 482.556 people, with 2016 in the end with less 87.824 unemployed compared to January of the same year.

according To data released this Monday by the Institute of Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP), in comparison with the previous month, the total number of registered unemployed in December of last year decreased 0.8%, which represents less 3.878 people.

In January 2016, the number of registered unemployed reached the 570.380. Compared to the same month of 2015, the number of the unemployed registered at job centres fell in both sexes, but the decline was more significant in men, with a decrease of 14.9%, while in women, the reduction was 11.4%.

As for the age group, the number of young subscribers (under 25 years) achieved a reduction of 20.1% and the group of adults presented, also, a decrease year-on-year in the number of subscribers of 12.1%.

with regard to the time of registration, the registered unemployed for less than one year fell by 15% in relation to December of 2015, and the long-term unemployed, that is, with the time of enrollment equal to or greater than one year, decreased by 11%.

The number of the unemployed seeking a new employment also decreased compared to the same month in 2015 (-12,9%), as well as those who were seeking the first job (-14,7%).

"The annual fall in unemployment was felt in all levels of instruction. The decrease percentage higher have been seen in the 1st and 3rd cycles of basic education, respectively, -14,7% -15,0% compared to the same month of 2015," signals the IEFP.

at The regional level, comparing with the month of December 2015, the unemployment has declined in all regions of the country, highlighting the Center with the drop percentage is more increased (-16,7%). In relation to the previous month, unemployment decreased in all regions, with the exception of the Algarve and the Centre, where there were accrued, respectively, for 6.8% and 1.7%.

The posts made during the month of December 2016 totaled the 4.876 across the country, a number lower than the same period of 2015 (-38,7% or the equivalent of 3.079 placements) and to that of the previous month (-16,2% or the equivalent of 942 posts).

The analysis of placements by groups of professions (mainland), shows, according to the IEFP, with a greater concentration in the "unskilled workers" (23.6 per cent) and in the "workers of personal services, protection and security, and vendors" (20,0%).
