Fiat Chrysler accused of falsifying emissions – TVI24

The Environmental Protection Agency of USA (EPA) accused the Fiat Chrysler to use a software hidden in two diesel models, with the intention of manipulating the testing of emissions of greenhouse gases.

THE EPA, the agency that "discovered" the scandal of the emissions the Volkswagen group, revealed, Thursday, that the software has detected in models of the Dodge Ram and Jeep Grand Cherookee, two vehicles sold in the U.S. and equipped with engines 3.0 diesel, manufactured between 2014 and 2016. The Agency estimates that 104 thousand vehicles were affected.

does Not inform [the authorities] about software that affects the emissions of the engines of the vehicles is a serious violation of the law, which may result in pollution harmful", said Cynthia Giles, official source of the EPA.

According to the agency Reuters, is an auxiliary device for emissions control, which allows the vehicles emit pollutants to the atmosphere above the legally permissible, in particular nitrogen oxide (NOx)

The fine for the use of software control of emissions without the knowledge of the authorities can reach up to 4.6 billion dollars (4.3 billion euros).

The chief executive officer (CEO) of Fiat Chrysler, Sergio Marchionne, has already reacted to the controversy and ensured that the brand has not committed any illegality. The company, incidentally, has already began talks with the EPA and has released documents which it considered relevant.

did nothing illegal. There was never intent to deceive the emission tests. All of this is nonsense", said Sergio Marchionne.

Fiat Chrysler warrants that it will prove that the software control of emissions has a purpose and was not designed to fool the tests. For its part, the EPA has already informed that he will pursue the investigations against Fiat Chrysler.
